'Dinner with Edward made me smile, laugh out loud and, also, cry. In this cynical world it is life enhancing' David Suchet A charming, tender and life-affirming memoir of a woman's unlikely bond with a 93-year-old widower With its delicious food, warm jazz, and stunning views of Manhattan, Edward's home was a much-needed refuge for reporter Isabel Vincent. Her recently widowed ninety-something neighbour would prepare weekly meals for her, dinners she would never prepare for herself - fresh oysters, juicy steak, sugar-dusted apple galette. But over long, dark evenings where they both grieved for their very different lost marriages, Isabel realised she was being offered a gift greater than crisp martinis and perfect lamb chops. As they progressed from meals à deux to full dinner parties with an eclectic New York crowd, she saw that Edward was showing her how to rediscover the joy of life. For even a shared bowl of chowder could transform loneliness and anxiety into friendship, freedom, and a pure, simple pleasure Isabel had not known she could find again. Isabel Vincent is a Canadian investigative journalist and award-winning author who writes for the New York Post. She has written several books for which she has received prestigious honours, including the Canadian Association of Journalists Award for Excellence in Investigative Journalism and the National Jewish Book Award in Canada for Bodies and Souls. Her writings have also appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, L'Officiel and Time. Vincent is fluent in French, Spanish and Portuguese. She lives in New York.

Years ago, four young people were entrusted with raising a special child, and they vowed to protect him at any cost. Now a diabolical secret coven threatens their government and everything they hold dear. As they risk their lives to prevent disaster, they discover dire secrets that rock the very foundation of their lives. Who can they trust in a horrifying world filled with deadly secrets? ~~~~~ Excerpt ~~~~~ James lost his footing as he heard what John said to him and felt the sweat working its way down his back. James felt like he was going to pass out. John looked at him and took a better grip of James arm to steady him. John then started to guide him out of the museum when a loud explosion was heard outside. This cause James to become more alert and started to run outside following behind John and almost running into him. John had stopped several steps outside. James followed John gaze as he saw the taxi car engulf in flame and could see Frank?s form also engulf in flame in the car. James was about to run toward the car when John stood in his path and gently pushed him back, ?There is nothing you can do, it?s too late for the man, and he?s dead already!? James stood about 260 feet from Frank and the taxi. He let a few tears drip from his eyes as if he knew Frank for a while. John shoved James in the opposite direction from the museum. Many people were running out of the museum in terror. The two men that had been across the street started crossing the street and continued toward John and James. John noticed a slight bulk in one of the man?s jacket. His life experiences allowed him to quickly realize it was a gun. The other man slid his hand into his pocket and pulled out a cigarette and a lighter; trying to look likes part of the crowd. He lit the cigarette revealing the back of his hand. On the back of his hand was an embedded tattoo of a pentagram with five-pointed star pointing down with the head of the Egyptian magic god Seth superimposed on the inverted pentagram with in a ?sacred? circle, belonging to the Coven of Seth. When John was part of the special force team in the army, he and his team once raided a satanic house with many colt descriptions. The Coven of Seth was described as one of the most dangerous and most active colts still together today. ?Quickly, no time to explain, just run? John shouted at the air; as he picked up speed. John reached behind his wind breaker and pulled out a gun. ?They?re coming for us? James was pulled by John in the opposite direction of the taxi. James started to run asking. ?You believe that they were after me?? ÿIn acknowledgment, John nodded his head in agreement. They rounded the corners and came to an alley way, where they stopped. John turned his head around the corner to look. The two men were about to cross the street toward them. Gun in hand John pushed James to move a little faster. The alley way was located behind a row of older buildings. As John went he tried some of the doors which were locked. They covered about two blocks where they came to a construction site. They climbed stairs to a vantage point that was about 20 feet above ground. The two men came up to the construction site, John and James were able to take cover. The sirens were getting closer and someone had gotten a fire extinguisher and had been working on trying to control the fire. One of the pursers said to the other ?Look we got to get out of here before the cops show up and start asking questions we?ll get them later? and took off in the opposite direction of the construction site.ÿ

Leah I didn’t belong in their world, but I made a good show of pretending I did. Mother and Father expected it. All I wanted to do was get a cosy cottage in the suburbs and live with my million cats. What I got instead was suitor after suitor paraded in front of me and the threat of a looming engagement. So, what else was a girl to do? After bumping into Mrs Fortescue’s ‘companion’ one too many times, I decided he’d do. Mother and Father wanted an engagement? They’d get one. Except I’d be the one having the last laugh because Patrick is the total opposite of what my parents want in a son-in-law – his nickname is Hawk for goodness’ sake – and I have no obligations to him in any department. But of course, the best laid plans make fools of us all and it’s not long before I want him to hold me accountable only to him in EVERY department. There’s just the small problem of him being completely unsuitable and without any inclination to settle down. If there’s one thing I know about men, it’s that it takes a remarkable woman to tame them. I know I’m a remarkable woman. I only hope it’s not too late for this lady to tame her hawk. Patrick If there’s one thing that makes a guy reconsider his womanising ways, it’s seeing his best mate and his little sister settle down. If there’s another, it’s a gorgeous woman in a stunning red dress. But she’s a part of a world I can only pretend to fit into and she’s a damned lady – elegant and sophisticated – and she’s totally off-limits to a grunt like me. Every time we meet, there’s a look in her eyes that suggests she’s far less sophisticated than she’d have me believe. And it’s not long before this hawk is close to begging to relinquish his freedom, even just for one night. So, how could I say no when she needed my help? I was expertly qualified to serve, and if I got to be myself for once that was just icing. But the more time I spend with her, the more I want to be around her. The more it feels less like a job and more like something real. There’s just the small problem of her being an heiress with obligations that don’t include me and the job will only last so long. I don’t know a lot about ladies, despite my remarkable ability to play a part. All I know is there’s always more underneath the mask, and there’s only one lady who can tame this hawk.

On his 53rd birthday, Kevin Sessums woke up in his L.A. hotel room wondering how he would get through his scheduled interview with Hugh Jackman. For years he had interviewed the bright lights: Madonna, Courtney Love, Jessica Lange, and all the other usual suspects; but, Kevin knew that his rapidly unraveling life was as shallow as the hotel's hip furniture and he was hanging on by his fingertips. In I Left It on the Mountain, Sessums chronicles his early days in NY as an actor, his years working for Andy Warhol at Interview and Tina Brown at Vanity Fair, countless nights of anonymous sex, his HIV Positive diagnosis and his descent into addiction. It's also the chronicle of one man's spiritual redemption found while climbing to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostelo and trudging across the cold, lonely winter beaches of Provincetown. Peopled with the famous like Daniel Radcliffe and Diane Sawyer as well as anonymous companions corporeal and otherwise whom he met while mountain climbing and hiking, I Left It on the Mountain is the story of one man's fall and rebirth, the next moving chapter in Kevin Sessums' extraordinary life that takes him from the high to the low and back again. For readers who loved Mississippi Sissy and want to know what happened to that tenacious little boy with the baseball mitt, I Left It On the Mountain is the sometimes very dark, but ultimately hopeful answer.

Musaicum Books presents to you this carefully created collection of 'THE COMPLETE WORKS OF E. F. BENSON (Illustrated Edition)'. This ebook has been designed and formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Edward Frederic Benson (1867-1940) was an English novelist, biographer, memoirist, archaeologist and short story writer, known professionally as E.F. Benson. He started his novel writing career in 1893 with the fashionably controversial Dodo, which was an instant success, and followed it with a variety of satire and romantic and supernatural melodrama. He repeated the success of Dodo, with sequels to this novel, but the greatest success came relatively late in his career with The Mapp and Lucia series consisting of six novels and two short stories. The novels feature humorous incidents in the lives of (mainly) upper-middle-class British people in the 1920s and 1930s, vying for social prestige and one-upmanship in an atmosphere of extreme cultural snobbery. Benson was also known as a writer of atmospheric, oblique, and at times humorous or satirical ghost stories.
