For more than five centuries The Last Supper has been an artistic, religious and cultural icon. The art historian Kenneth Clark called it 'the keystone of European art', and for a century after its creation it was regarded as nothing less than a miraculous image. And yet there is a very human story behind this artistic 'miracle'. Ross King's Leonardo and the Last Supper is both a 'biography' of one of the most famous works of art ever painted and a record of Leonardo da Vinci's last five years in Milan.

Many great works of art have been created that we call "Christian," but none has received as much acclaim as Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. Art lovers venerate it for its composition and noble aesthetics, whereas, for Christians, it epitomizes the intimacy between Christ and his disciples. In recent years--following the publication of bestselling fictional narratives and dubious historical studies--The Last Supper has also become the focus of intrigue, controversy, speculation, and sensation. Recent restoration of the painting has exposed remnants of the original work and removed falsifications created by over-painting. Thus, for the first time since its creation more than five hundred years ago, we can contemplate Da Vinci's masterpiece in its more or less original form. This lavishly illustrated, full-color book reproduces many details of the restored work, and the author turns our attention to newly revealed aspects of The Last Supper that lead to fresh interpretations. The philosopher Rudolf Steiner called The Last Supper the world's most important work of art, adding that it revealed "the meaning of Earth existence." Michael Ladwein sheds light on many aspects of the spiritual facts that can be uncovered in this immortal painting--one that has lost nothing of its urgency in our modern world. This book constitutes the full papers and short monographs developed on the base of the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Information Technologies: Information and Communication Technologies for Research and Industry (ICIT-2019), held in Saratov, Russia in February 2019. The book brings accepted papers which present new approaches and methods of solving problems in the sphere of control engineering and decision making for the various fields of studies: industry and research, ontology-based data simulation, smart city technologies, theory and use of digital signal processing, cognitive systems, robotics, cybernetics, automation control theory, image recognition technologies, and computer vision. Particular emphasis is laid on modern trends, new approaches, algorithms and methods in selected fields of interest. The presented papers were accepted after careful reviews made by at least three independent reviewers in a double-blind way. The acceptance level was about 60%. The chapters are organized thematically in several areas within the following tracks: • Models, Methods & Approaches in Decision Making Systems • Mathematical Modelling for Industry & Research • Smart City Technologies The conference is focused on development and globalization of information and communication technologies (ICT), methods of control engineering and decision making along with innovations and networking, ICT for sustainable development and technological change, and global challenges. Moreover, the ICIT-2019 served as a discussion area for the actual above-mentioned topics. Uniquely authoritative and wide-ranging in its scope, The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church is the indispensable reference work on all aspects of the Christian Church. It contains over 6,500 cross-referenced A-Z entries, and offers unrivalled coverage of all aspects of this vast and often complex subject, from theology; churches and denominations; patristic scholarship; and the bible; to the church calendar and its organization; popes; archbishops; other church leaders; saints; and mystics. In this new edition, great efforts have been made to increase and strengthen coverage of non-Anglican denominations (for example non-Western European Christianity), as well as broadening the focus on Christianity and the history of churches in areas beyond Western Europe. In particular, there have been extensive additions with regards to the Christian Church in Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America, and Australasia. Significant updates have also been included on topics such as liturgy, Canon Law, recent international developments, non-Anglican missionary activity, and the increasingly important area of moral and pastoral theology, among many others. Since its first appearance in 1957, the ODCC has established itself as an essential resource for ordinands, clergy, and members of religious orders, and an invaluable tool for academics, teachers, and students of church history and theology, as well as for the general reader.

Where are Leonardo's canvas oil paintings he described? This report analyzes the historical and scientific details of a powerful, large painting bought at auction in France. Carbon-14 dates the canvas to around 1460s and the painting to 1514, the time Leonardo was in Rome. It encapsulates the geopolitical strategy of Medici Pope Leo X to create an alliance with France and stop the early church reform. It shows striking improvements to the Milan 'Last Supper' incorporating a mathematical structure, the only painted self-portrait of Leonardo and a replacement of the 'Christ' figure by Julian, the brother of Pope Leo X, who married into the French royal family of Francis I. This great work captures the turning point to the modern era, freedom of thought, religious and political emancipation from the tyranny of the sword and superstition. X-ray photography reveals Leonardo signaled his initials on his final masterpiece, not once with his hands, nor twice but three times.

Computers are more and more becoming creative tools in music as well as in the visual arts and design. In the last few years, it has become clear that digital technology provides a platform for multimedia productions as well as a medium for new art forms. Computer Music and Computer Graphics & Animation have their own international forums. The need was felt, however, to bring together the diverse disciplines within art and technology in one international event - the First International Symposium on Electronic Art (FISEA). The Symposium attracted considerable interest and hundreds of papers and proposals were submitted, of which a selection were accepted. This book, also published as a supplement to the journal Leonardo, publishes 20 of these selected papers under the editorship of Wim van der Plas, Ton Hokken and Johan den Biggelaar. This richly illustrated issue on Electronic Art reflects the enormous international interest which FISEA generated and will further stimulate interest in applications of new technology in music, visual arts and design.
