The Great Secret completes a trilogy of books by Eliphas Levi published in his "Studies in Hermetic Tradition" series, the two previous volumes being The Book of Splendours and The Mysteries of the Qabalah. Taken together these writings represent a fitting memorial to one who "has been both the keeper of the hermetic tradition and the absolute renovator of esoteric thinking in Europe in the 19th century". "You will be as gods, knowing good and evil". So concludes what Eliphas Levi considered to be his last testament, his most important and final treatise, and a summation of his esoteric philosophy. This volume is the conclusion of the work he started with Book One, The Hieratic Mystery or the Traditional Documents of High Initiation, published as The Book of Splendours (Weiser, 1984). The Great Secret contains his final two works: Book Two, The Royal Mystery or Art of Subduing the Powers, in which Levi discusses such topics as Evil, the Outer Darkness, the Great Secret, Magical Sacrifice, Evocations, the Arcana of Solomon's Ring, and the Terrible Secret. Book Three, The Sacerdotal Mystery or the Art of Being Served by Spirits, covers Aberrant Forces, the Chaining of the Devil, Sacred and Accursed Rites, Divination, Dark Intelligence, and the Great Arcanum.Author: Elizabeth Parsons Ware Packard

In a world that seeks to dictate the terms of His involvement, a correct view of God is critical. Unveiled is about taking God at His Word, and is both challenging and encouraging to us in our walk with Christ. It is challenging because of its direct appeal to have us consider where we are in our Christian walk, relative to where God would have us be. Unveiled is encouraging; in spite of the many ways in which we fall short of God’s glory, His grace remains. Unveiled brings us back to a God-centered focus. Plain-spoken and practical, Unveiled benefits anyone at any level of spiritual maturity. Spiritual growth occurs day by day as we encounter God. With devotions, combined with prayers and Scripture readings, Unveiled helps you in that encounter. By God’s grace, your faith will grow, your life will be changed, but most importantly, our God will be glorified. “Unveiled is one of the most unique devotionals I have seen. The reader is stimulated to read God’s Word and to contemplate complex issues. It is a great tool for growing in the faith and knowing God more intimately. I find it to be a user-friendly devotional with practical concepts for dealing with everyday challenges.” —Lt. Gen. William G. Most ideas of sacrifice, even specifically Christian ideas, as we saw in the Reformation controversies, have something to do with deprivation or destruction. But this is not authentic Christian sacrifice. Authentic Christian sacrifice, and ultimately all true sacrifice (whether one is conscious of it or not) begins with the self-offering of the Father in the gift-sending of the Son, continues with the loving "response" of the Son, in his humanity, and in the Spirit, to the Father and for us, and finally, begins to become real in our world when human beings, in the power of the same Spirit that was in Jesus, respond to love with love, and thus begin to enter into that perfectly loving, totally self-giving relationship that is the life of the triune God. The origins of this are in the Hebrew Bible, its revelatory high-points in Jesus and Paul, and its working out in the life of the Church, especially its Eucharistic Prayers. Special attention will be paid to the atonement, not just because atonement and sacrifice are often synonymous, but also because traditional atonement theology is the source of distortions that continue to plague Christian thinking about sacrifice. After exploring the possibility of finding a phenomenology of sacrificial atonement in Girardian mimetic theory, the book will end with some suggestions on how to communicate its findings to people likely to be put off from the outset by the negative connotations associated with "sacrifice."Author: Jenni Licata
